Grand Theft Auto VI — Setting

World of Leonida

Everything confirmed so far about the state of Leonida — the sun-bleached, neon-buzzed playground of Grand Theft Auto VI, launching November 19, 2026. Every summary below is written in our own words; follow the source links at the bottom for the originals.

The Goodtime State

Leonida is Rockstar's fictional stand-in for Florida — the packaging for the game's own collector's edition brands it "the Goodtime State." It's the most ambitious setting the series has attempted: not a single city, but a whole state, stitched together from coastline, islands, and mainland sprawl.

Vice City

The neon heart of Leonida — the series' legendary Miami-inspired metropolis, back in a leading role for the first time since 2002. If the trailers are any indication, it's bigger, denser, and more alive than anything Rockstar has built before.

Leonida Keys

A ragged island chain off the coast where the criminal underbelly does its business — smuggling routes, boat yards, and off-the-grid hideouts. Protagonist Jason Duval has been working these waters for local drug runners.

And beyond

Rockstar is still keeping most of the mainland under wraps, teasing "must-see destinations across the sunshine state" on its official site without naming them. Expect the map to keep unfolding right up to launch.

The Faces of Leonida

Eight characters are confirmed so far — here they are in our own words. Full official profiles are linked in Sources.

Jason Duval

An ex-soldier trying to outrun a youth spent around grifters and crooks. These days he runs jobs for smugglers in the Leonida Keys — and meeting Lucia might be the best or worst thing that ever happened to him.

Lucia Caminos

Raised to fight by her father, she did time in the Leonida Penitentiary for standing up for her family. Out now with one rule — only smart moves — and a plan to take the good life instead of waiting for it.

Cal Hampton

Jason's friend and fellow hanger-on, happiest at home with a few beers, Coast Guard radio chatter, and a browser full of conspiracy theories. Casual paranoia, fully committed.

Boobie Ike

A Vice City legend who converted street money into a legitimate empire spanning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio. All smiles — until it's time to talk business.

Dre'Quan Priest

More hustler than gangster. He booked acts for Boobie's club while chasing a music career; now he runs Only Raw Records. He just needs a hit.

Real Dimez

Bae-Luxe and Roxy — friends since high school who turned street savvy into viral rap tracks and a relentless social media presence. Signed to Only Raw, one hit away from fame.

Raul Bautista

A seasoned, charming bank robber forever hunting for talent bold enough to chase the biggest scores. Experience counts — but his recklessness raises the stakes every time.

Brian Heder

A golden-age Keys smuggler from the drug-running heyday, still moving product through his boat yard alongside his third wife. He lets Jason live rent-free — for a price.

What the press sees in it

Game Informer's September 29 feature "Welcome to Leonida" reads the state as Rockstar's satire of real-world Florida's contradictions — simultaneously a sleepy retiree haven and a celebrity flashpoint, an ecological wonder and a paved-over resort strip. The piece argues the parody lands because the stereotypes aren't entirely wrong, and that no studio is better positioned to skewer the Sunshine State than the one that invented Vice City.

The fans are already mapping it

While we wait for November, the community isn't idle. gtadb.org — a fan-run GTA geography project running since 2013 — is building interactive landmark maps for GTA VI out of pre-release screenshots and footage, attempting to match every in-game building to its real-world counterpart. They've even built a GeoGuessr-style game out of official screenshots to pass the time. The mapping race is half the fun of a GTA launch, and it's already underway.
